Study finds that consumption of kiwifruit leads to an improvement in mood and vitality within four days

It is well known that cuddling with fluffy dogs and kittens makes people feel better, but can consuming fluffy fruit have the same effect?

Researchers at the University of Otago in New Zealand have found that kiwifruit is a powerful mood booster.

The research was published in the British Journal of Nutrition, reported Earth.

The research team, led by Professor Tamlin Conner of the Department of Psychology and Dr Ben Fletcher, embarked on an eight-week dietary intervention involving 155 adults with low vitamin C levels.

Their experiences of vitality, mood, flourishing, sleep quality and quantity, and physical activity were meticulously tracked through smartphone surveys.

Remarkably, the study found that consumption of kiwifruit led to an improvement in mood and vitality within just four days, with peak effects observed around the 14 to 16-day mark.

Let's talk about its benefits.

Vitamin C

Kiwifruit contains more vitamin C than oranges. Vitamin C boosts your immune system, enhances skin health, and helps with iron absorption.

Fibre

It’s a fantastic source of dietary fibre, aiding in digestion and maintaining a healthy gut. It also helps reduce cholesterol levels, improving heart health.

Weight loss

The fruit’s low-calorie profile, combined with its high nutrient and fibre content, aids in weight loss.

Antioxidants

Kiwifruit contains antioxidants like carotenoids and flavonoids, which combat oxidative stress and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

Improves sleep

Its high levels of antioxidants and serotonin help improve both sleep duration and quality.

Other minerals and nutrients

Kiwifruit also packs a variety of other vitamins and minerals, including vitamin K, vitamin E, and potassium. These nutrients support bone health, prevent blood clotting, and regulate blood pressure, respectively.
