Actress Joo Hyun-young will not join Coupang Play’s ‘SNL Korea’ reboot season 5.

On the 29th, AIMC, the agency, released a full text containing information about joining Season 5 that Joo Hyun-young personally delivered to the ‘SNL Korea’ reboot production team.

Joo Hyun-young said, “This is a thought about my intention to participate in the next season of ‘SNL.’ I am cautious, but as I have deep respect and affection for ‘SNL,’ I came to this conclusion after careful consideration for a long time and it is my sincerity, so I hope it is conveyed well.”

He said, “It is still too early and cautious for me to decide whether to join, but if you ask me first, I think it will be difficult for me to join next season.”

He continued, “To tell you why, I know that because ‘SNL’ allows me an environment where I can try out a variety of acting and express myself to my heart’s content, I can develop what I do best and enjoy. That’s when I’m the most excited and happiest. “It is true,” he said, “but as I encountered works of other genres, it was unfamiliar and difficult, but as I accumulated experiences in places other than ‘SN’L,” he said, “I felt a different kind of growth.”

Joo Hyun-young said, “Can I challenge myself by combining these experiences with ‘SNL’? When I think about it, I have definitely been trained so far, but I was told that not only is the genre and color of the work I will be filming starting early next year very dark, but also the personality of the character I will be in charge of must convey what I want to say in the work seriously.” He said, “I still don’t have enough experience and skills to flexibly adapt and change between various works, so I felt like I needed more focus and time than what I had done so far.”

He said, “Not only can I not predict the success of this work right now, and nothing is guaranteed, but joining ‘SNL’ at this point is a challenge to take a path that no one else has taken, and quitting is also a new challenge for me. “I think so,” he said. “Nothing is guaranteed and it may be a regrettable choice, but I am trying to pioneer a new path that is a little more unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and difficult.”

He continued, “I don’t know how this article will be implied and conveyed, but I don’t think this short article can contain all of my love for ‘SNL,’ so I would be grateful if you could understand and support me with a generous amount of generosity.” “Thank you to everyone who trusted and entrusted me to be part of the ‘SNL’ crew. It was truly a glorious time,” he added.

Joo Hyun-young joined ‘SNL Korea’ from season 1, which started in September 2021, and was with it until season 4, which was released in July of last year. In particular, he received a lot of love for playing the role of ‘Reporter Joo’, an intern reporter new to society, in ‘Weekend Update’, which was the signature corner of ‘SNL Korea’. Subsequently, through the ‘Reporter Joo Goes’ corner, it attracted a lot of attention by asking sharp yet humorous questions to influential politicians and celebrities. Afterwards, he appeared as a ‘young old man’ employee in the popular corner ‘MZ Office’ and gained a lot of sympathy from viewers.

After becoming famous through ‘SNL Korea,’ he played the role of Woo Young-woo (played by Park Eun-bin)’s close friend Dong-Geori-mi in the 2022 ENA Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo,’ making a mark on the small screen with his bubbly licorice character. Afterwards, she played the role of Sa-wol, the handmaid of Park Yeon-woo (played by Lee Se-young), in the recently concluded MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Veign Woman Park’s Contract Marriage’.

Some have argued that the conflict between the production team and the production team of the ‘SNL Korea’ reboot, which recently arose, may have influenced Joo Hyun-young’s departure. Ace Story, the production company behind the 'SNL Korea' reboot, commented on the fact that Producer Ahn Sang-hwi and the production team of the 'SNL Korea' reboot left the company and transferred to CP Entertainment, a subsidiary of Coupang, saying, "Ahn Sang-hwi and CP Entertainment are holding hands together to create Ace Story's SNL." They claimed that “the entire production headquarters was stolen,” and predicted legal action.

Joo Hyun-young is an actress from AIMC, a subsidiary of ‘SNL Korea’ production company Ace Story. Accordingly, opinions were raised that the conflict between the production company and the production team may have influenced his withdrawal from Season 5, but it is known that Joo Hyun-young has already decided to withdraw after the end of Season 4 to focus more on acting.

Meanwhile, actress Kim A-young, who is appearing in the reboot of ‘SNL Korea’ under the same agency as Joo Hyun-young, will join in season 5.
