Pallavaram DMK MLA Ando Mathivanan and his wife Merlina, who lived in Thiruvanmiyur area of Chennai, were accused of beating and harassing a 17-year-old girl who came to work as a maid at their house and called her caste names.
The Neelangarai women's police went directly to the girl from Ulundurpet area of Villupuram district and took a statement and registered a case against Ando and Merlina under 6 sections of Prevention of Atrocities Act and Child Protection Act.

After this, a medical examination was conducted on the girl. At the same time, special forces were formed on behalf of the Neelangara police to catch Ando and Merlina who were absconding after this complaint and they were arrested yesterday in Andhra Pradesh.
Following this arrest, Ando and Merlina were produced before the Egmore court judge this morning. The judge ordered them to be remanded in judicial custody till February 9. After this they were imprisoned.
In this case, the victim girl met the media with her friend. Then the girl said, I have been working hard at their house for the last 7 months. I saw my work despite their harassment. The government should get the salary for that. Even if the government does this for my studies, it is enough. He also requested that the government should buy my study certificate and replacement certificate.
A person who spoke to reporters on behalf of the girl said that a 17-year-old girl was affected. As of now, the government has not announced the government compensation. He demanded that the government should declare about the girl's education expenses and that Ando and Merlina should not be granted bail till the charge sheet is filed in the case.
