Republican candidate for the White House and former president Donald Trump has termed Russia "a war machine" that has historically proven to defeat its enemies, repeating claims that were he in power, the war would not have been started.
The criminally charged Donald Trump told Fox News Town Hall that Moscow had defeated Napoleon and Hitler in the past and this is what they do.
The 77-year-old said Tuesday: "I feel very bad… Remember this: you are really up against a war machine in Russia. [It’s] what they do. They’ve defeated Hitler, they’ve defeated Napoleon."
The business mogul is currently leading the Republican nomination in a bid to face incumbent President Joe Biden in November this year.
In his consistent claims, the former president said that if he were in the White House, the stand-off between Ukraine and Russia would not have started. He also told his supporters that he could end the hostilities "within 24 hours".
He also maintained that Europe is affected by the Russia-Ukraine war, not the US, hence they should do more to support Kyiv.
"We have an ocean in between us. They don’t have that ocean," Trump said, adding: "You know why they have not paid? Cause nobody asked them."
The US Senate recently passed a $95 billion aid package, including funds for Ukraine, but its fate remains uncertain in the House of Representatives. House Speaker Mike Johnson's decision not to bring it to a floor vote adds to the challenges faced by Kyiv.
Earlier this month, in his social media post, Trump referred to a border security bill and the foreign aid of $60 billion to Ukraine, saying: "Don't be STUPID!!! We need a separate Border and Immigration Bill. It should not be tied to foreign aid in any way, shape, or form!"
"This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats and a Death Wish for The Republican Party," Trump said on his Truth Social platform to his party members in Congress.
