Russia has criticized the West for not politicizing Alexei Navalny's death.
According to CNN, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenza said during a press conference at the UN Security Council on the 19th (local time), “The investigation into Navalny’s death has not yet been completed. “The exact cause of death has not been revealed,” he said.
He criticized, “Yet our Western colleagues are claiming that the (Vladimir) Putin regime is responsible for this death.”
Navalny is an opposition leader who was considered President Putin's biggest political opponent. On the 16th, a month before the Russian presidential election (March 15-17), he lost consciousness and died after a walk at Siberia's Yayo-Nenets Prison No. 3, where he was imprisoned.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said at a briefing that “the investigation into the circumstances of Navalny’s death is ongoing” and that the results have not yet been released.
Western countries are summoning Russian ambassadors one after another, claiming responsibility for the Putin regime.
On the 16th, starting with the UK, Germany, Latvia, Finland, Spain, and Sweden summoned their Russian ambassadors one after another, emphasizing the responsibility of the Putin regime and calling for a complete and transparent investigation.
According to the TASS news agency, the Russian ambassadors who were summoned reportedly expressed their stance, saying, “We absolutely cannot tolerate groundless accusations and speculations about Russia,” and “This is another blatant attempt to interfere in Russia’s internal affairs.”
