According to sources, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the General Intelligence Service (GUR) under the Ministry of Defense carried out a joint operation last night to attack a factory in Novolipetsk, one of Russia's four major steel companies, with an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone).
A large fire broke out at the factory site and employees were evacuated, but the extent of casualties is unknown.
Military officials explained to Reuters that they did not reveal the specific location where this operation was carried out.
However, the source emphasized, "The materials produced by this company are used to make Russian missiles, cannons, and drones," and "it was a legitimate target of the Ukrainian military."
Also, the day before, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk announced via Telegram that he had shot down a Russian early warning aircraft, the Beryev A-50.
The location of the shootdown is known to be between Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar, Russia, about 200 km from the Ukrainian border.
Commander Oleshchuk pointed out that February 23rd was ‘Defense of the Fatherland Day’ celebrated by the Russian military and sarcastically said, “I congratulate the occupying forces on ‘Defense of the Fatherland Day’.”
The Ukrainian military also announced on the 15th that it had destroyed an A-50 reconnaissance aircraft and an Ilyushin Il-22M special mission aircraft.
Recently, one SU-34, one Kh-59 cruise missile, and 12 attack drones were destroyed overnight on the 18th.
