Ukrainian troops reportedly attacked a bakery in Lishychansk, a city in the Russian-occupied Luhansk region, killing at least 28 people.

According to the Associated Press on the 4th (local time), Commander of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR, former Ukrainian Luhansk Oblast) Leonid Paseknik said through Telegram that a similar incident had occurred the previous day, and that at least one child was among the dead.

He added that 10 people were rescued from the rubble by rescue teams.

Ukraine did not comment on the attack.

LPR is a region that pro-Russian separatists declared themselves a republic in 2014, and was occupied by Russia in July 2022 after the start of the war in Ukraine.

As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues for about two years, the two sides have shown little change along the 1,500-kilometer-long front and have recently increasingly relied on long-range attacks, the Associated Press reported.

Meanwhile, on this day, authorities in the Sumy region of northeastern Ukraine announced that the Russian military had shelled the area in 16 separate attacks the previous day. He added that gunfire was fired at border villages including Unakivka, Bylophilia, Krasnopilia, Velikapisarivka and Esman.
